PDC World Cup of Darts-Day 3 Semi and Final

At the start of the evening session, England were looking dead Certs to crash out to Wales in the semi finals. Phil Taylor had been carrying an off form Adrian Lewis for most of the Tournament. Taylor was just one man, but not just any man. He was a 16 times World Champion and wanted to retain this world cup trophy so much.

Finland v Belgium

Jani Haavisto v Kim Huybrechts

0-1 – Huybrechts takes out 106 to win the opening leg.
0-2 – Huybrechts doubles his lead with a fine 120 checkout.
0-3 – Huybrechts’ flying start continues as he opens with a 180 and fires in double 18 for a 13-darter.
1-3 – Haavisto opens with a 180, and Huybrechts replies with two maximums to set up a possible nine-darter, then hitting treble 20, treble 19 and missing double 12 for a perfect leg! He then misses five further match darts and Haavisto keeps his hopes alive with double ten.
1-4 – Huybrechts is this time able to land double 12 as he seals victory for Belgium in the opening Singles game.

Jarkko Komula v Ronny Huybrechts
1-0 – Komula lands double eight to win the opening leg.
1-1 – Huybrechts posts double 16 to level.
1-2 – Huybrechts opens with a ton and then hits back-to-back 180s before landing double eight.
2-2 – Double top sees Komula level.
3-2 – Komula puts himself ahead and within a leg of forcing a Doubles decider.
3-3 – Huybrechts opens with a 180, and when Komula misses two match darts he posts double eight to force a deciding leg.
4-3 – Huybrechts struggles to pressure Komula, who is first to a finish and has enough cushion to miss four more match darts before returning to pin double three.

Finland v Belgium
0-1 – Belgium hit a 180 in the opening leg before Ronny Huybrechts lands double 16.
0-2 – Kim Huybrechts opens the second leg with a maximum, and older brother Ronny finishes 76 in two darts to double their lead.
0-3 – Haavisto lands a 180, but Ronny Huybrechts hits the winning double once again, this time on double 12.
0-4 – Belgium complete a brilliant with a 105.47 average – a record for a Doubles game in the World Cup – as Kim Huybrechts finishes 60 on tops for a 14-darter. The pair emotionally embrace on stage as they dedicate the win to their late father Ludo.

Wales v England

Phil Taylor v Mark Webster
1-0 – Taylor wins the opening leg on double 16.
1-1 – Webster misses double ten to level, but when Taylor is unable to finish double 12 for a 93 finish, he returns to post a tricky double two to square the game.
2-1 – Webster hits a 180, but Taylor responds with a maximum of his own before landing double 16 to move back ahead.
3-1 – Taylor finishes a superb third-dart double top, with his other two darts hanging over the bed, to move a leg away from the win.
4-1 – Taylor hits a 177 and lands double 16 to give England the opening Singles point.

Adrian Lewis v Richie Burnett
0-1 – Burnett lands a 180 and hits double one to win the opening leg.
1-1 – Burnett opens with another maximum, with Lewis replying with a maximum before punishing three missed doubles from the Welshman by posting double ten to level.
1-2 – Burnett hits double four to win the third leg, again missing doubles before this time returning to edge ahead.
2-2 – Lewis posts a maximum and then finishes double ten to square the contest.
2-3 – Burnett continues to score well, and although he misses further doubles the former Lakeside Champion hits double four with his third dart to move a leg away from the win.
3-3 – Lewis pins double top to send the game into a deciding leg – which Wales must win to stay in the tournament and force a Doubles decider.
3-4 – Burnett kicks off the leg with a 180 and leaves 32 after 12 darts, finishing double eight for a 14-darter to send the game into a Doubles clash.

England v Wales
1-0 – Taylor finishes 96 on double eight as England open the Doubles contest with a 15-darter.
1-1 – Webster takes out 104 on double 12 to level.
1-2 – Taylor opens the leg with a 177, but misses double top, ten and five to win the leg and Webster finishes 124 on the bull to break throw.
1-3 – Burnett leaves 40 after 12 darts, and Webster posts double ten with his third dart to put Wales a leg away from the final.
2-3 – Lewis produces a timely 140, and Taylor takes out 95 on the bull to keep England in the game.
3-3 – England are first to a finish, with Taylor missing two darts to check out 86. Burnett, though, misses double ten for a 140 finish for the match, and Lewis takes out double four to send the tie into a deciding leg!
4-3 – England leave 103 after 12 darts and complete the comeback, with Taylor initially missing double 16 before Lewis hits the bed to take victory.

The Wales match had been a true Tungsten battle for the England due, and they had rode the luck a little to much, If only Lewis could find a little form.

 

Final
England 3-1 Belgium

 

Phil Taylor v Ronny Huybrechts
1-0 – Taylor breaks throw to win the opening leg of the final.
2-0 – Taylor lands a 180 posts double 16 to move two legs up.
3-0 – Taylor finishes 78 on tops to win a third leg, retaining an average of above 105.
4-0 – Taylor is first to a finish once again, and lands double ten for a fine display to win the opening Singles game without Ronny Huybrechts being allowed a dart at a double.

Adrian Lewis v Kim Huybrechts
0-1 – Huybrechts settles any nerves with a 180 before finishing 46 to break throw in the opener.
0-2 – The Belgian adds another 180 before finishing tops to double his lead.
0-3 – Huybrechts finishes 70 on double eight to move three legs up, moving his average up to almost 105.
0-4 – Lewis hits a 180, but misses the bullseye and two darts at double eight to allow the Belgian in to hit the same bed and seal the Singles win.

So we were at 1-1 And then something Magical happened. Lewis came alive. ALIVE i tell you!! hitting 8 out of 9 perfect darts for a 9 Darter, and then another 5 in the next leg.

Adrian Lewis v Ronny Huybrechts
1-0 – Ronny Huybrechts hits a 180 but misses a dart at double 18 for a 103 finish, and Lewis takes out double ten to win the opener.
1-1 – Lewis misses the bull for a 95 finish and two darts at double eight, and Huybrechts recovers from another miss at double 18 to land double four to level.
1-2 – Both players hit 180s, and Huybrechts takes out double 13 for a 13-darter.
2-2 – Lewis opens with two 180s, and then hits treble 20 and treble 19 before missing double 12 for a nine-darter – like Kim Huybrechts did earlier – but the Stoke star returns to hit the bed for a ten-darter with his next visit.
3-2 – Lewis opens with another 180 and a 135 with five more perfect darts, and although Huybrechts hits a maximum in reply, the English star hits tops for a 12-darter to move ahead.
4-2 – Lewis’ resurgence continues as he scores 125 and 180 before sealing the comeback and a fine victory on double four, ending with an average of 105.75 to put England one game away from retaining their title.

Phil Taylor v Kim Huybrechts
1-0 – Taylor hits a 177, and although Kim Huybrechts replies with a 180, the World Champion finishes tops for a 14-darter.
1-1 – Taylor lands a 180 but misses double 16 to finish 108, and Huybrechts posts double eight to level.
2-1 – Taylor misses the bull to take out 122 but returns to hit double nine.
3-1 – Taylor hits another 177, and when Huybrechts misses double 18 for a 153 checkout, he finishes 110 to move a leg away from the title.
4-1 – PHIL TAYLOR WINS THE BETFAIR WORLD CUP FOR ENGLAND, hitting a third 177 of the final and double ten to seal a second successive title.

0-1 – Restovic finishes 97 in two darts to win the opener.
1-1 – Huybrechts takes out 64 on double eight to level.
2-1 – Double 16 sees Huybrechts break throw to lead.
3-1 – Huybrechts lands tops to move a leg away from victory.
3-2 – Restovic finishes 104 on tops to keep alive his hopes.
4-2 – Huybrechts lands double 11 to seal victory in the opening Singles game.

Ronny Huybrechts v Robert Marijanovic
1-0 – Ronny, the older of the Huybrechts brothers, lands double 16 to take the opening leg.
1-1 – Huybrechts misses double 16 and Marijanovic steps in on tops to level.
2-1 – Huybrechts lands double ten to win the third leg.
3-1 – Both players miss doubles before Huybrechts lands double three to edge towards the win.
4-1 – Huybrechts misses the bull for a 122 finish, but further misses from Marijanovic allow him back to land double eight to put Belgium into the semi-finals.

Antonio Alcinas v Mark Webster
0-1 – Webster lands double ten to break in the opening leg.
1-1 – Alcinas hits a 180 to leave 77, and after both players miss doubles the Spaniard lands double two to level.
2-1 – Alcinas, needing 80, hits a five with his first dart but returns to land outer bull and the bullseye to lead.
2-2 – Alcinas misses the bull for a 126 finish and Webster takes out 102 on tops.
3-2 – Alcinas posts double 12 to move a leg away from the win.
3-3 – Webster takes out 94 on tops to force a deciding leg with a 14-darter.
3-4 – Alcinas hits two 140s to be first to a finish, but misses four match darts at double top, ten and five to allow Webster in to finish 76 on tops for the win.

Carlos Rodriguez v Richie Burnett
1-0 – Rodriguez hits a 180, and is given a reprieve from two misses at double 16 when Burnett is off-target on double 12 for a 98 finish, and the Spaniard pins double 16 at the third time of asking to lead.
1-1 – Burnett posts a 180 of his own, and the roles are reversed as Burnett initially misses two darts at double 18 only for Rodriguez to be unable to land tops for a 104 finish as the Welshman levels on double nine.
2-1 – Rodriguez lands his second maximum of the game, and when Burnett misses double 12 and two darts at double six, the Spanish ace finishes 65 on tops.
3-1 – Double three puts Rodriguez a leg away from the win.
3-2 – Burnett finishes double 16 to win the fifth leg and threaten a comeback.
3-3 – Burnett takes out a brilliant 156 checkout to level and force a decider – with Rodriguez failing to set up a double with six darts from 170.
4-3 – Rodriguez produces a superb deciding leg, leaving 40 after 12 darts before posting tops for a 14-darter to send the tie into a decisive Doubles contest.

Spain v Wales (Doubles)
1-0 – Rodriguez finishes 96 on double 18 to give Spain the opening leg.
1-1 – Webster misses double five for a 130 finish, but Burnett steps in to hit the bed to level for Wales.
2-1 – Alcinas finishes 70 on tops to give the Spanish leg three.
2-2 – Burnett lands a 180 to leave 28, and Webster pins double 14 to level again.
2-3 – Rodriguez misses double 19 and Alcinas misses two darts at double eight, and Webster steps in to post double ten – with Burnett unable to watch following one miss at tops earlier in the leg.
2-4 – Webster takes out 48 on double 16 to put Wales into the semi-finals.
Wales win the tie 3-1 following the Doubles game

 

England v Japan

Phil Taylor v Haruki Muramatsu
0-1 – Muramatsu lands a 180 and, when Taylor misses the bull to finish 90, the Japanese ace hits double top for a 14-darter.
1-1 – Muramatsu misses tops for a 112 finish, and Taylor lands double 16 to level.
2-1 – Taylor finishes 68 on double 16 to hit the front.
3-1 – Taylor hits a 174 in bring first to a finish, and lands double 18.
4-1 – Muramatsu hits a 180 to leave 81, but Taylor secures victory with a sensational 167 checkout!
Both players end the game with ton-plus averages, with Taylor at 107.83 and Muramatsu at 100.06.

Adrian Lewis v Sho Katsumi
0-1 – Katsumi wins the opening leg by finishing double ten.
1-1 – Lewis levels by taking out 88 on double 14.
1-2 – Katsumi regains the lead by posting double 18 with his fourth dart for the leg.
2-2 – Katsumi misses double ten for a 140 finish, and Lewis levels again, this time hitting tops.
3-2 – Lewis lands double eight to move a leg away from the win.
3-3 – Katsumi opens with a 180, and although he misses tops initially, the Japanese ace returns to force a deciding leg.
3-4 – Katsumi gets the first chance at a finish, but misses tops for a 120 checkout only for Lewis to miss two match darts and allow him back in on double ten to force a Doubles decider.

England v Japan
0-1 – Taylor misses three darts to win the opening leg, and Muramatsu steps in to take out 60 to break throw for Japan.
0-2 – Japan double their advantage by taking out 40.
1-2 – Taylor takes out 84 to get England off the mark.
2-2 – Taylor levels the contest by producing a superb 160 finish.
3-2 – Katsumi lands a 180, but Taylor finishes 50 to put England ahead on double 16.
4-2 – Lewis posts a 180, and Taylor finishes 32 to put England into the semi-finals.

 

Finland v Germany

Jani Haavisto v Jyhan Artut
0-1 – Artut delights the German crowd with a 180 as he takes the opening leg in 14 darts with a 68 finish.
0-2 – The German lands a second 14-darter by finishing 16.
0-3 – Artut takes out 106 for a 15-dart finish to move three legs up.
1-3 – Haavisto takes out 36 to get off the mark.
1-4 – Artut opens with a 180, and seals victory with a fine 102 checkout.

Jarkko Komula v Andree Welge
1-0 – Komula finishes 20 to take the opening leg.
1-1 – Welge levels by landing double 16.
1-2 – Welge wins the third to move ahead.
2-2 – Komula finishes 81 on double 12 to level.
3-2 – Welge misses the bull and two further doubles, and Komula steps in to move ahead.
4-2 – Komula finishes tops to win a third successive leg and send the game into a Doubles decider.

Finland v Germany
1-0 – Komula hits a 180 before Haavisto lands double ten for the opener.
2-0 – The Finns double their lead through a double one finish.
2-1 – Germany hit back to win a scrappy leg, with all four players missing doubles, including Komula at the bull for a 132 finish and Welge at the bull for a 170 checkout.
3-1 – Haavisto hits tops to put Finland a leg away from the semi-finals.
3-2 – Finland miss nine match darts as Artut eventually scrambles home double two to win a dramatic leg and keep Germany’s hopes alive.
3-3 – Germany initally miss four darts to win the leg, but Haavisto misses three more match darts as Artut posts double two to force a decider.
4-3 – Both teams leave 127 after nine darts in the decider, with Komula posting a 180 only to then miss the bull for the match, but Welge cannot finish 127 and Haavisto posts double eight to win the tie and send Finland into the semis.

PDC World Cup of Darts-Day 2 Last 16

Who would of thought at the beginning of the evening session that so many of the big seeds would fall by the way side and there would be so much upset. It was like the twilight zone. The bookies were laughing all the way to the bank and Adrian Lewis said he was like a Pooing Dog!!

Northern Ireland v Croatia

0-0 – Northern Ireland win the bull and will throw first
1-0 – Northern Ireland made a confident start, with Brendan Dolan missing double ten for a 140 finish but Michael Mansell tidying up on double five.
1-1 – Mansell misses three darts to double Northern Ireland’s lead, and Robert Marijanovic takes out a superb 124 on the bullseye.
1-2 – Despite opening with a 180, Northern Ireland are unable to close out the third leg, and Marijanovic steals in to finish 82 on tops.
2-2 – Dolan settles Northern Ireland’s nerves by landing double 16.
3-2 – Mansell finishes 121 to push Northern Ireland back ahead.
3-3 – Croatia initially miss seven doubles to level, but Northern Ireland miss five darts of their own and Marijanovic posts double one to square the game.
3-4 – Marijanovic takes out 120 to put Croatia ahead once again.
4-4 – Dolan misses the bull, but Restovic is unable to land one dart at tops for the match and Mansell hits double 11 to force a decider.
4-5 – The match reaches a hugely dramatic conclusion, with Restovic missing double top only for Dolan to miss double ten and five for the win, allowing Marijanovic to hit double 13 for the victory.

Ireland v Japan

0-0 – Japan win the bullseye and will throw first.
0-1 – Sho Katsumi gives Japan the opening leg with double two.
0-2 – Haruki Muramatsu opens the leg with a 180 and hits double 14 to break throw for Japan.
1-2 – Katsumi misses a dart at double 12 and two at double six, and Connie Finnan lands tops to get Ireland off the mark.
1-3 – Katsumi misses a dart at double 18, but when William O’Connor is unable to hit the bull for a 122 finish, Muramatsu steps in to land double nine with his third dart.
2-3 – Muramatsu hits a 180, but Katsumi misses a dart at tops to punish a miss from O’Connor, and Finnan lands tops to hit back for Ireland.
3-3 – Finnan lands double top again to level.
3-4 – Finnan misses the bull to take out 94, and Muramatsu lands a pressure double top to finish 80.
3-5 – Finnan misses two darts at tops to force a deciding leg, and Katsumi lands tops at the first time of asking to seal a famous victory.

Wales v Canada

0-0 – Canada won the bull and will throw first.
0-1 – Canada win the opening leg to make a strong start, with Part hitting double 18 for a 13-darter.
1-1 – Part hits two 180s in the second leg, but Mark Webster hits a 120 finish to level for Wales.
1-2 – Jeff Smith hits a 180, and Part takes out 95 on double eight to move Canada back ahead.
2-2 – Richie Burnett levels for Wales on double four.
3-2 – Webster finishes 48 on double 16 to edge Wales ahead for the first time.
4-2 – Burnett copies Webster’s finish by landing double 16 to continue Wales’ flawless finishing.
5-2 – Webster seals a brilliant win for Wales by landing double 18 to put them into the Quarter-Finals without missing a dart at a double.

Australia v Belgium

0-0 – Belgium win the bullseye and will throw first.
0-1 – Kim Huybrechts hits a 180 and posts tops for a 13-darter to open the game for Belgium.
1-1 – Simon Whitlock lands a 180 and Paul Nicholson chips in with double two to level for Australia.
1-2 – Kim Huybrechts posts tops again to edge Belgium ahead.
1-3 – Ronny Huybrechts pins a 180, and when Kim Huybrechts and Whitlock both miss doubles he steps in to land double two to break for Belgium.
1-4 – Belgium are first to a double, and Kim Huybrechts lands double 16 to put the brothers a leg away from the Quarter-Finals.
1-5 – Nicholson misses darts at double 18 and nine, and Kim Huybrechts lands double 18 to secure a brilliant win for the Belgian brothers, who average 101.08!

Scotland v Spain

0-0 – Scotland win the bullseye and will throw first.
1-0 – Gary Anderson takes out 90 on double 18 to win the opening leg for Scotland.
1-1 – Carlos Rodriguez hits double 16 to level the game for Spain.
2-1 – Antonio Alcinas hits a 180, with Robert Thornton missing tops for a 111 finish only for Rodriguez to miss double eight and four, allowing Anderson in to hit double ten.
3-1 – Anderson initially misses two darts to win the leg, but Rodriguez misses tops for a 102 finish and Thornton steps in on double seven.
3-2 – Rodriguez misses the bull to take out 164, but Alcinas returns to finish double 16 to hit back for Spain.
3-3 – Rodriguez levels by finishing tops.
4-3 – Anderson opens with a 180 but the Scots miss five doubles between the pair – only for Rodriguez to miss tops to put Spain ahead as Anderson lands double one to edge Scotland ahead.
4-4 – Rodriguez misses double top and ten, but Thornton is unable to land tops to finish 100 with one dart for the match, and Alcinas lands double five to force a decider.
4-5 – Alcinas hits a 180 to leave 81, with Rodriguez setting up tops to allow his partner to hit the winning double, repeating their 2010 success against Scotland.

England v South Africa

0-0 – England win the bullseye and will throw first.
0-1 – Phil Taylor misses double 14 for a 121 finish, and Charl Pietersen puts South Africa ahead on double ten.
1-1 – Adrian Lewis lands double eight, with his third dart, to level for England.
1-2 – Pietersen takes out 121 on the bull to put the South Africans back ahead.
2-2 – Lewis fires in a 177 to leave 70, and Taylor takes out the combination on tops to level.
2-3 – South Africa secure a third break of throw, with Pietersen hitting two 180s in the leg, which Shawn Hogan finishes by taking out 81 on double 13 for a 12-darter.

4-4 – Lewis hits 171 to leave 40 for England for the match – only for Pietersen to finish 66 with a bullseye, double eight combination to force a decider.
5-4 – An amazing final leg sees Pietersen miss two match darts, at double ten and five, and Lewis holds his nerve to hit the key double top and seal victory for the reigning champions.

Netherlands v Finland

0-0 – Netherlands win the bullseye and will throw first.
1-0 – Raymond van Barneveld lands double eight to give the Netherlands the opening leg.
2-0 – Michael van Gerwen lands a 180 and punishes missed doubles from Finland to land double 16.
2-1 – Finnish pair Jani Haavisto and Jarkko Komula open with 180s to set up a possible nine-darter, with Haavisto landing a treble 20 but missing the treble 19 on the 141 finish, although Komula returns to post double ten.
2-2 – van Gerwen opens with a 171, but Haavisto is first to the double as he posts double 18 to level.
2-3 – Komula posts a 180, and when van Barneveld misses the bull and van Gerwen misses double 12, Haavisto steps in on tops to put the Finns ahead.
2-4 – Haavisto posts tops again to put Finland to the brink of victory.
3-4 – van Barneveld hits a 180 and van Gerwen lands double two to keep the 2010 champions in the hunt.
3-5 – van Gerwen misses double 18 and two darts at double nine, and Komula hits double ten for a stunning win.

Germany v Poland

0-0 – Germany win the bullseye and will throw first.
1-0 – Jyhan Artut hits double 16 to give Germany the opening leg.
2-0 – Artut hits a 180, with Krzysztof Kciuk replying in kind only for Welge to hit double nine and increase Germany’s cushion.
2-1 – The tension shows as all four players miss doubles before Kciuk lands double eight to get Poland off the mark.
3-1 – The Germans move two legs clear by taking out 122.
4-1 – Welge punishes missed doubles from Poland by taking out double eight.
4-2 – Artut hits a 180 but the Germans miss nine match darts to allow Kciuk in to keep the game alive on double 16.
5-2 – Germany wrap up the victory in style, with both players hitting 180s to open the leg, and although Artut is unable to finish a nine-darter, Welge finishes double 16 for a 12-darter to seal their Quarter-Final place.

UK Masters-European Qualifier

THREE German aces were amongst the eight European Qualifiers for the UK Masters European Tour event in Minehead, after winning their spots in Thursday’s knockout in Hamburg. The European Qualifier for the opening £100,000 European Tour was held at the Alsterdorfer Sporthalle in Hamburg, with eight places in the UK Masters event, at the Butlins Minehead Resort from March 8-10, on offer. Germany’s Jyhan Artut and Finland’s Jarkko Komula both warmed up for their participation in the Betfair World Cup of Darts at the same venue this weekend by winning their spots in the UK Masters. Artut was joined in qualifying by fellow Germans Bernd Roith and Tomas Seyler, who defeated Austrian World Cup representative Maik Langendorf in their decisive match. Austria’s Mensur Suljovic, though, did manage to qualify as he defeated Dutch pair Mareno Michels and Roland Scholten and Finland’s Marko Kantele on the night, and he was joined in winning through by Michael Rasztovits, who edged out Leon de Geus 6-5 to qualify. Belgium’s Kurt Van De Rijck saw off Spanish World Cup ace Antonio Alcinas and Leo Hendriks as he qualified, while Dutchman Jelle Klaasen overcame three players who will compete in the World Cup as he won through with victories over Dyson Parody, Daniele Petri and Carlos Rodriguez.

The UK Qualifier for the UK Masters European Tour event will be held on Friday February 22 at the K2 Centre in Crawley, where 24 qualifiers will complete the field for the £100,000 event, alongside the top 32 players from the ProTour Order of Merit.

5-0 – Lewis hits a 180, and after both he and Taylor miss double eight for the win, the two-time World Champion finishes double eight to seal a whitewash to book England’s Last 16 place.

Netherlands v Poland

0-1 – Jarkko Komula hits a 180 and finishes double 16 to win the opening leg for Finland.
1-1 – Andree Welge lands a 180 and Jyhan Artut posts double 16 to level for the home side.
1-2 – Double eight sees Finland edge back ahead.
